Housing Plans for Bournemouth & Boscombe

In June 2015 it was announced that Bournemouth Borough Council may buy up properties to house the homeless of Bournemouth, after Boscombe was listed as one of the most deprived areas in the South of England, in the deprivation index.

The Council are applying to set up a Private Sector Landlord Company, which will provide for people in need of emergency accommodation. If the proposals are agreed, this may include buying around 60 properties over a three year period.

Ultimately this is an effort to save on emergency bed and breakfast accommodation costs and provide a better living environment for people in need.

The proposals also compliment the efforts of the Boscombe Regeneration Partnership, whose focus is on six main areas in need of improvement, including housing.

As part of the five year plan already underway, Bournemouth Borough Council are aiming to create more affordable family homes in Boscombe, fight street homelessness and encourage more owner occupation and private sector investment.

In an effort to encourage working families back into the area and provide people the opportunity to get onto the property ladder, there could be a development to build housing on the council owned car park at Palmerston Road, (subject to planning permission). This could consist of 12 houses, each with 2 or 3 bedrooms, most of which would be offered on a shared ownership basis.

It is hoped that these developments proposed by the council, will create more housing to meet with increasing demand and aim to provide people with a better standard of housing in the Boscombe area and for homeless people in and around Bournemouth.
